The Odyssey: A Journey Through Education
I graduated in 2010 from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Classics. While I was not sure of the path I wanted to take just yet, I knew that a career that incorporated history and classical studies was the only career choice for me. When presented with an opportunity to travel abroad and joined the Classics Department in their archaeological expedition to Turkey in the summer of 2010.
After several months abroad, I returned home more passionate than ever about history, but I also returned without a proper plan. As I worked at a university for two years, I explored my different options as I took graduate entrance exams, applied to different programs, and tried to decide which path was best for me. Ultimately, I decided to pursue my Masters from Baldwin Wallace University along with my initial teaching licence in secondary Social Studies.
I am currently finishing my Masters in Education Technology with a Minor in Special Education. Initially, I chose this program based on a process of elimination, as I was not interested in my other options. However, I quickly learned during that first semester that I made the right choice. My technology classes were the most enjoyable, most inspiring, and most useful of all of my courses. To this day, I still feel that way. Through my education, I have learned so much about technology resources, how to find them, how to apply them to the classroom, and how to create my own materials if I have a vision.
Although I started my journey with uncertainty, I can now say that I am confident in my abilities to not only teach history, my first love, but to also share everything I know about instructional technology to not only enhance my students' learning, but to guide and assist other teachers as they work to improve their own curriculum.
